Coastal Roasters
If you’re cruising along Rhode Island’s Route 77, just below the Route 24 bridge along the Sakonnet River in Tiverton, you can’t help but notice Coastal Roasters over looking the water. Their tagline outside on the sign says it all: “Hand Roasting Fresh Coffee Since…this Morning”.
Even though the shop is sandwiched in between other buildings in the historic Stone Bridge District at 1791 Main Road (Route 77), the place is distinctive enough in appearance and aroma to turn heads. Coffee here is roasted daily onsite in small batches by hand. When you walk in, you can’t help but notice the huge cast iron Diedrich roaster next to the counter. This place isn’t for indifferent or lazy. You’re not here for just any cup of coffee. If you’re the type of person who settles for Dunkin
Donuts or gas station brew without thinking of fair trade or distinct flavor, stop in anyway and you may just be converted with one visit. Whether single origin or custom blend, all beans are organic, carefully selected, and offered in both espresso and coffee drinks. My favorites are the double espresso shot Red Eye and The Coco Loco, an iced chocolate milk with espresso and some frothed milk on top.
The icing on the cake…or foam on your latte is Coastal Roasters’ location. Get your coffee, grab a seat outside in one of their Adirondack-style weathered wooden chairs, and savor the salt air and fresh coffee as you watch fishermen head out for the day.
And if you’re not in the area, you can place an order for a shipment of beans sent directly to your doorstep via e-mail at: coastalroasters@cox.net
